McAfee has been in the business of antivirus for quite a while. The company was founded in 1988. is also known for its firewall antispam, file encryption and public key infrastructure product lines. However, it is best known for its anti-virus software, and holds a strong position in the market. Its security suites offer comprehensive protection against viruses and malware and are guaranteed by a $1 million identity theft guarantee.

Each of McAfee’s plans comes with a full-featured malware scanner that can stop the entry of malware into a computer system and kill or quarantine the viruses that have already infiltrated it. Its real-time engine blocks malware files from downloading and reroutes, encrypts and reroutes data so that your internet activity can’t be intercepted.

McAfee has consistently scored high in our tests in both the AV-Test 0-day test as well as our malware protection test. It also scored 100 percent on our privacy tests.

The interface of the suite is clean and easy to navigate. Accessing features like parental controls and identity theft protections can be somewhat of a challenge, though. They’re separated into distinct menus on the dashboard. Support is also quite difficult. The McAfee Community Forum is in operation, but Techmaster Concierge will be required to help you with more complicated issues.

McAfee’s system scanner did not eliminate some junk files from our test systems. It also does not provide an option to drag and drop a file or folder into the suite to scan like some of its competitors. This is a major omission in a security suite of this price.
